2027: Senator Dickson Reveals Plan to Challenge Tinubu for Presidency

Seriake Dickson, the senator from Bayelsa West Senatorial District, has stated that he does not currently have any plans to run against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.

According to reports, Dickson said he is now more concerned with creating a legitimate political platform than with chasing personal goals.

Speaking to reporters outside of a news conference at his Abuja home, the former governor of Bayelsa State revealed the information.

The briefing came after he decided to join the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) and recently resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

He claims that building the new party into a strong national platform is his top focus, along with that of other political stakeholders.

In reality, our goal is to seize control of the central government. It is also feasible. A party is made up of people. “It’s not the name,” he remarked.

Dickson denied rumors that he joined the NDC with the intention of running against Tinubu for president in 2027.

He emphasized that rather than talking about presidential aspirations, the party is now concentrating on laying a strong basis.

“You also discussed the presidential contest. I’ll tell you straight away. We don’t concentrate on that. He stated, “My coworkers and I are trying to create a reliable platform to provide to Nigeria and draw in as many people as we can.”

Ahead of the 2027 elections, the member also downplayed the ongoing national discussion over presidential ticket permutations and zoning.

He believes that political players should prioritize fortifying political parties and institutions.

“Let me reiterate that politics is much more than the presidential ticket and zoning. First, we would like to construct a party. We don’t want to repeat the mistakes made by others.

“Who runs, who doesn’t, and which region comes first are the main points of contention. Let’s prioritize the celebration. Things will work themselves out when that time comes.

“But even though I am highly qualified, I am not looking at that right now,” he stated.

Dickson urged politicians from all around the nation to join the NDC, stating that the party wants to develop into a widely accepted national platform.

“Our goal is to create a party. We therefore like to extend an invitation to everyone. Everyone with a stake in the presidency, governorship, senate, House of Representatives, state House of Assembly, chairmanship, or council. Visit the Nigeria Democratic Congress. “The game has changed with NDC,” he stated.

The senator stated that the party is still open to all Nigerians in response to worries that members of the ruling party would infiltrate the new platform.

“We are open for everyone,” he declared. We will know how to deal with any circumstance that comes up. However, that is not the least of our concerns. Our goal is to draw good people from across the nation.

Dickson also made it clear that the new party is not to be confused with the Niger Delta Congress, which is no longer in existence.

According to him, the recently registered NDC was intended to serve as a national political platform.

“I am a politician from all over Nigeria. Dickson stated, “This newly registered party called the Nigeria Democratic Congress is different from the old Niger Delta Congress.”

The senator, who had already declared his retirement from the PDP, attributed the party’s problems on internal strife and poor leadership.

He declared, “The governors and other leaders must take responsibility for the preventable, self-inflicted destruction of the PDP.”

Additionally, he cautioned against attempts to establish a one-party state in Nigeria.
