Ex-Kano Deputy Governor Rejects Tinubu’s Appointment, Set to Join ADC

Nasiru Gawuna, the chairman of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN) Governing Board, has tendered his resignation.

Gawuna, a previous Kano State governorial candidate for the All Progressives Congress (APC), is purportedly getting ready to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC) with former Kano State governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, according to report.

The official defection is anticipated to occur on Tuesday, according to sources cited by Daily Nigerian.

Gawuna stated in a resignation letter dated March 27, 2026, that his decision is effective immediately and complies with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s order that political appointees resign in accordance with the Electoral Act before to future elections.

He declared, “My resignation is in strict compliance with the President’s directive requiring all political appointees to step down in accordance with the provisions of the Electoral Act.”

Gawuna expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for granting him the position of chairman of the FMBN governing board.

He claimed that the role allowed him to support both the institution’s expansion and the advancement of the country.

He characterized his employment as a luxury that enabled him to contribute to bolstering the bank’s operations and promoting housing construction in Nigeria.

By transferring responsibilities in accordance with established protocols, the former board chairman promised to facilitate a seamless transition.

He went on to say that he was entrusting God with his future intentions.

“I seek divine guidance for my next steps while placing my future in the hands of Allah (SWT),” he declared.

Gawuna had officially resigned from the APC before to leaving the FMBN board, a move that was commonly seen as a part of the political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.
