Osun Police Arrest 18 Suspects Over Erin-Osun Ilobu Attack

Fourteen more people have been arrested in relation to the recent attack on police personnel in the towns of Erin-Osun and Ilobu, according to Osun State Police Command.

This brings the total number of suspects detained in connection with the incident to eighteen, according to a statement released on Sunday by the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, on behalf of Commissioner of Police CP Ibrahim Gotan. The Command described these operations as sustained intelligence-led operations.

Ibrahim Gotan, the Commissioner of Police, oversaw the arrests, according to DSP Ojelabi.

“The suspects had initially gone into hiding after the attack but were later apprehended through targeted intelligence gathering,” the statement reads.

A single-barrel rifle, a single live cartridge, and a cutlass were among the exhibits found during the operation, according to the police.

Community leaders, such as “Olaitan Bashiru, identified as the Baale of Apeponroro, Tajudeen Aralamo, the Baale of Oke Ayepe, and Mustau Salam, the Oluode of Ilobu,” are among those detained.

“Jimoh Nurudeen, Adeboye Ashifa, Ajibola Segun, Mustapha Muwaliu, Jimoh Quyum, Ajani Faruq, Musibau Jimoh, Ajani Faruq, Olaniyan Quadri, Fatai Oyawoyin, Basiru Olaogun, Mutairu Olawoyin, Ige Jimoh, Olawoyin Samad, and Tajudeen Taorid” are further suspects mentioned by the police.

The Command reaffirmed its dedication to protecting everyone’s human rights in the case while making sure justice is done.

According to the statement, “the Command assures that all those involved in the criminal act will face the full weight of the law to serve as a deterrent to others.”

Police urged the public to uphold the law and assist security services by providing helpful information, adding that operations are still underway to capture further fugitive criminals.

The Osun State Police Command had previously announced on Thursday that four individuals had been taken into custody in relation to the crime.

The police also stated that more people connected to the incident had been found and were being pursued for possible arrest.

According to the Command, the officers were assaulted while reacting to information about a possible breakdown in harmony between the Ilobu and Erin-Osun communities.
