According to political activist Aisha Yesufu, members of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) were bought off to overthrow the African Democratic Congress (ADC) leadership.
Yesufu made this statement on Monday during a live interview on “Prime Time” on Arise Television.
The BringBackOurGirls Movement co-convener added that there are purported indications that the INEC Chairman was intimidated into taking this move.
Remember that INEC recently removed former Senate President David Mark from his position as the party’s national chairman?
“There are reports that INEC officials were allegedly bribed with monies up to $50,000 and lands were given,” Yesufu stated, expressing her own opinion. In all of this, where are the ICPC and EFCC?
“Corrupt politicians have taken advantage of the judiciary. And it shouldn’t be like that. There are locations where homes are being constructed for them, where various meetings are taking place, and so on. That’s what all of us are concerned about.
“In my opinion, there should be one autonomous institution, and if there are, it should not be the one where individuals are being threatened.
We wouldn’t have all of these shenanigans if there were independence, accountability, and transparency.
“Let’s all go to court and have whatever is there, but it disturbs us and our nation’s democracy when you see that the judiciary and other institutions have become eager tools of tyranny against opposition parties.
“This democracy, by the way, many people died for us to have what we have today, and we cannot have a few people come and destroy it just because they want to hang on to power that they are not deserving of,” Yesufu said.
