Former Kano Governor Defects From APC

Kabiru Gaya, a former governor of Kano State, has left the All Progressives Congress (APC).

According to reports, he addressed a letter to the party’s ward chairman in Gaya Arewa, which is in Kano State’s Gaya Local Government Area, announcing the decision.

With this action, he is leaving a party where he has been a leader and member for many years.

Gaya, who served as Kano South’s senator from 2015 to 2023, clarified that his decision was the result of serious consideration and deliberation.

He stated that his decision to leave the party was motivated by his personal convictions and what he felt was best for the people he represents.

Noting that he was given the opportunity to serve and received support while in office, he also expressed gratitude for the part the party played in his political career.

“I hereby formally tender my resignation from the All Progressive Congress (APC) effective today, April 5, 2026,” he declared.

Serving under the party’s platform has been an honor, especially during my time as a senator (2015–2023). I am still appreciative of the opportunities, trust, and support I received throughout this time.

However, after thorough consideration and extensive conversation, I have concluded that leaving the party at this time is in the best interests of both my own convictions and my constituents. I would want to express my profound appreciation to the party for the platform it gave me as well as for the years of collaboration and friendship.
