ADC Directs Newly Elected Officials to Stay Away from Office

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has told its newly elected state executives and other officers to stay out of the office until they are officially sworn in.

The party said the order was needed to avoid confusion and make sure the change in leadership went smoothly.

Bolaji Abdullahi, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, said in a statement on Friday that the new officials’ terms had not yet begun.

He said, “The terms of office for all newly elected state executives and other party officers will not begin until the current executives’ terms end and they are officially sworn in by the party on May 12, 2026, or on any later date that may be officially communicated.”

He also said that the current leadership will stay in place until the transition is over.

Abdullahi went on to say, “To be clear, all current executives are still the Party’s official officers until this constitutional transition process is over.”

The party warned new officials, especially those at the state level, not to do things that could cause problems or set up parallel structures.

The statement went on to say, “Therefore, all newly elected officials, especially at the state level, are advised to take note and avoid any action, representation, or behavior that may go against this clear constitutional directive or cause confusion within the Party structure.”

The ADC said again that it would stick to its rules and be disciplined.

It said, “The ADC is still committed to orderliness, discipline, and strict adherence to its constitution and democratic processes.”

The party said that the new executives will be sworn in on May 12, 2026, or any later date that is officially announced.
