PDP Convenes First NEC Meeting at Wadata Plaza

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) will hold its first National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting at its national headquarters, Wadata Plaza. This will happen after the police reopened the secretariat last week.

In November of last year, the party’s secretariat was sealed off after a violent fight between groups loyal to Tanimu Turaki and Abdulrahman Mohammed, both of whom claimed to be the party’s leader.

In March, the crisis took a new turn when the Court of Appeal threw out the Ibadan convention that led to the Turaki-led leadership.

The Mohammed-led group, which is said to have the support of Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, used the decision to plan a separate convention in Abuja.

Members of the Mohammed-led faction are expected to go to the NEC meeting.

Wike, former Senate President Bukola Saraki, and former Abia State Governor Okezie Ikpeazu are just a few of the big names who are expected to attend the meeting.

The group that supports Wike, on the other hand, has promised to run a presidential candidate in 2027.

It was said that Wike has publicly said he supports President Bola Tinubu’s re-election.

He had just said in a TV interview that the party doesn’t have the money to run a presidential campaign.

But Jungudo Haruna Mohammed, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, told Daily Trust in an interview that the party would not run a presidential candidate.

He said that the National Executive Committee meeting on Monday will talk about and settle problems with zoning and the cost of the forms.
