Hon. Sani Aliyu Danlami, a member of the House of Representatives has lost his bid to secure the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket for the 2027 election in Katsina Central Federal Constituency.
Danlami, who is serving his second term at the Green Chamber was defeated after days of intense consultations among party stakeholders and powerful figures.
Stakeholders are said to have settled for Abba Mangal, the son of billionaire businessman, Dahiru Mangal as the party’s flag bearer.
The outcome represents a major political shift in the constituency, considering the incumbency of Danlami and his existing grassroots support.
The decision followed extensive negotiations to reach a consensus acceptable to key stakeholders, party insiders told Daily Trust.
Naija News reports that political circles are reacting to the emergence of a legal practitioner, Abba Mangal, who had not publicly declared interest in the race before the decision.
Responding to the development, Danlami accepted the outcome of the consensus process and called on his supporters to remain peaceful.
The lawmaker in a statement urged party faithful to eschew violence and make unity a priority.
He stressed on the need for maintaining stability in the party and the state irrespective of the outcome of the exercise.
The consensus process took two days, from Tuesday to Thursday, and included several rounds of talks between aspirants and their backers, sources close to the process said.
The sources said the contest was keenly fought as several big names lobbied hard for the ticket.
Among those said to have jostled for the position are Lawal Amadu Joka, a former Aide-de-Camp to ex-governor Aminu Bello Masari; Haruna Maiwada; Ibrahim Ali Guguwa; Sani Danlami; and Hon. Abdurashid Abba.
Dahiru Mangal is generally regarded as a formidable force in the political landscape of Katsina for over 20 years.
His political career began with his support for the successful re-election of the late former President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua as governor in 2003.
He is now believed to have played a key role in shaping major political appointments and election results across the state.
But the arrival of Abba Mangal is the first instance where a member of his immediate family is in the running for elective office.
