43LABOUR PARTY RELEASES TIMETABLE, FEES FOR 2027 PRIMARY ELECTIONS
The Labour Party Nigeria has officially unveiled its timetable and schedule of activities for the conduct of its 2026 primary elections ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a press release issued on May 3, 2026, and signed by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ken Eluma Asogwa, the party stated that the schedule aligns with the provisions of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended), the Electoral Act 2026, and the guidelines set by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
According to the timetable, the sale of nomination forms for all elective positions will commence on May 6 and end on May 16, 2026. Submission of completed forms is scheduled for May 17 to May 18.
Screening of aspirants will take place in phases, with House of Assembly and governorship aspirants slated for May 20, while National Assembly and presidential aspirants will be screened on May 22. The publication of screening results is expected on May 23.
The party also fixed May 24 and May 25 for appeals and petitions for different categories, while the final list of cleared aspirants will be released on May 26.
Primary elections for House of Assembly and governorship positions are scheduled for May 27, while those for National Assembly and presidential positions will hold on May 29, 2026.
The party further announced the fees for nomination forms across various offices. Aspirants for State House of Assembly are to pay a total of ₦3 million, while House of Representatives forms cost ₦5 million. Senate aspirants will pay ₦10 million, governorship aspirants ₦25 million, and presidential aspirants ₦50 million.
However, the party disclosed that the governor of Abia State, Alex Otti, will be presented with the governorship nomination form free of charge.
In line with its commitment to inclusivity, the Labour Party announced concessions for women, youths aged 25 to 30, and persons living with disabilities. These categories of aspirants are only required to pay for the Expression of Interest forms across all positions.
The party also urged prospective aspirants who are yet to register as members to take advantage of its ongoing e-registration exercise. The registration window, which opened on May 3, will close at midnight on May 4, 2026, ahead of the submission of its membership register to INEC in compliance with the Electoral Act.
The announcement marks a significant step in the party’s preparation for the 2027 general elections, setting the stage for what is expected to be a competitive primary process.
