56 candidates have been disqualified from running in the All Progressives Congress’s (APC) upcoming primary election by the Rivers State House of Assembly Screening Committee.
Only 33 of the 98 candidates that were vetted during the exercise, which took place between May 9 and May 10, were approved by the committee, which was led by Muraine Ajibola.
According to the committee’s May 10 report, the impacted candidates did not fulfill the requirements of the screening process.
Ishake Yamawe, the committee secretary, Ajibola, and Danjuma Samuel, another member, signed the report.
Those excluded included all candidates associated with the campaigns of former governor Tonye Cole and Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
Ahead of the primaries, it is anticipated that the revelation may heighten political tensions inside the Rivers APC.
Sokari Goodboy, Victor Oko-Jumbo, and Chijoke Ihunwo are a few prominent members of Fubara’s group who did not pass the screening.
