2027: Police, INEC Strengthen Partnership Ahead Of Lagos Elections

The Lagos State Police Command has reiterated its commitment to collaborate with the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to ensure peaceful and credible elections in Lagos State ahead of the 2027 general elections.

This was contained in a statement released on Wednesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, during a courtesy call on the Command Headquarters in Ikeja by officials of INEC.

The delegation from INEC was led by the Lagos State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Prof. Abayomi Salami, while the Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani Fatai, received the delegation as contained in the statement.

Salami also congratulated the police commissioner on his recent appointment and sought for the continued partnership and support of the command as the preparations for the 2027 elections gradually commence.

The statement by the electoral body, stressed the need for continued partnership with security agencies to ensure peaceful, free, fair and credible elections across the state.

The INEC delegation was led by the Lagos State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Prof. Abayomi Salami who congratulated the CP on his appointment and sought the continued collaboration and support of the Command as the preparations towards the 2027 General Elections gather momentum, the statement read.

CP Fatai said the synergy of relevant institutions was important to strengthen democratic governance and boost public confidence in the electoral process.

He also assured the INEC of the command’s readiness to provide the needed security support within the ambit of the law.

“He reiterated the readiness of the Lagos State Police Command to provide adequate security support and respond positively to all lawful requests by the INEC in the discharge of its constitutional responsibilities,” the statement added.

The police commissioner also emphasized the need for inter-agency cooperation to ensure peace and order before, during and after elections in the state.
