The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has fixed June 20, 2026, as the date for the conduct of a bye-election for the Dawakin Kudu/Warawa Federal Constituency seat in Kano State following the death of the lawmaker, Muhammad Danjuma who represented the constituency in April 2026.
State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Abdu Zango who disclosed this to journalists in Kano on Wednesday.
He said a total of 143,675 registered voters in Warawa Local Government Area have collected their Permanent Voter Cards. In Dawakin Kudu Local Government Area, a total of 162,445 voters have registered and collected their voter cards in 15 wards, he said.
“The commission will work closely with security agencies, especially the police to ensure adequate security during the election as security concerns are emerging in parts of the constituency,” Zango said.
“We are bringing in security agencies to ensure peaceful and credible conduct of the election across affected areas,” he said.
The INEC official also said Kano still remains the state with the highest number of completed voter registrations in the country.
