Former Minister of Transportation and ex-Governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi, has spoken on how losing the presidential primary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) affected his personal life and faith.
In an interview on Arise TV, he was quoted as saying that the defeat to President Bola Tinubu not only affected him politically but also took him into a period of spiritual doubt.
Speaking on his thoughts after the primary election, Amaechi said he was more concerned about the state of the nation than his personal disappointment.
He said he was troubled by the agony Nigerians were going through and wondered why pain persisted in spite of continuous prayers across the country. He said this inner conflict affected his normal prayer life.
He said he had quit attending regular prayer sessions with his spiritual guide during that period.
His concern over the state of the country led him to withdraw and think deeply about the situation and this created a distance in his spiritual routine.
I started asking God, ‘God, do you think Nigerians should continue to suffer? And then it affected my faith a little bit, I stopped praying,“ Said Amaechi.
The ex Rivers Governor also revealed that his spiritual guide later called him when he noticed his absence. He was taught a lesson in faith and acceptance of things beyond human control, and in the course of their discussion he was able to have his fears for the Country and his misgivings about prayer taken away.
