Peter Obi Is Not My Godfather – Aisha Yesufu Clarifies

Rights activist, Aisha Yesufu has said that former Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi is not her godfather but her principal.

Yesufu made the statement during an interview on Arise television in which she clarified her political affiliation and support for Obi.

She said she was never a member of the LP but supported Obi because of what she called his empathy, patriotism and commitment to Nigeria.

“Yesufu said she had always made it clear that she was an Obi supporter during the election and not a member of the LP.

“I haven’t got a godfather,” she said. Peter Obi is not my god father. He is my Principal.”

“First of all I was never in the Labour Party and I think I’ve said this again and again. I don’t know if I should put it on my phone. I was a fan of Mr. Peter Obi.

“I was a member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and I later moved down to the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC).

The activist said she remained loyal to Obi because she felt he had the qualities to lead Nigeria.

I gave my words to Peter Obi and I see him right now as that person who has empathy, who is patriotic and who cares enough about Nigeria for it to work for Nigerians,” Yesufu further said.

I want somebody that when they get in that office I don’t have to keep demanding things, you know?”

‘Activism is Taking Me Into Politics’
Yesufu said she planned to bring her advocacy and activism into politics.

She said that if voted into the senate to represent the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), her priority would be to hold the executive accountable.

“I’m taking advocacy and activism into politics because for me as a lawmaker, if I get voted in by the grace of God, my number one business is to hold the executive accountable,” she said.

“Yes, I will not support frivolous loan requests from the executive even if Obi becomes president,” Yesufu said.

“You cannot just come as a president, Mr. Peter Obi, being the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, cannot just come to the Senate with frivolous, you know, application for loans, and I, Aisha Yesufu, am representing the FCT,” she said.
