Nollywood actress, Dayo Amusa has condemned the rising online bullying against people in the creative industry.
The actress posted on her 𝕏 page about how she’s saddened by the treatment actors and other entertainers receive whenever they post their thoughts or advertise their work on the internet.
She reportedly said that many people in the industry are often attacked and labeled insensitive for posting about their projects during difficult periods in the country.
Amusa said making movies was a huge financial enterprise, with loans taken at high interest rates.
She says it is not fair to expect filmmakers to stop their work and only talk about issues like insecurity and government policies on social media.
The actress also made it clear that she will not take online trolls dictating how she uses her platform.
She said she has decided long ago not to build her brand around pleasing online crowds and she added that critics’ negative comments will not affect her.
She wrote, “I woke up today with a very heart…Crazy the bullying a lot of you give to our colleagues in the creative industry…
“They can’t freely share their opinion, they can’t post their jobs without being called insensitive..
We go to bank to take loans to shoot movies with high interest rate but you want us to suspend our jobs and be posting videos of kidnapping and cursing the government daily while you’re in your own office tweeting and enjoying your environment..
“From the day i decided to start using this app actively, i’ve made up my mind that many of you trolls don’t matter..I don’t pander to mobs like I didn’t build my brand on it..
“I have other sources of income, don’t come under my post to behave like a fool, I’ll send you home…
That said, May God bring succor to the family of the kids and teachers kidnapped in Oyo state..May they arrive home safely 🙏.”
