No fewer than four White House staffers have resigned their positions in protest of the invasion of the US Congress by pro-Trump supporters on Wednesday.

First lady Melania Trump’s chief of staff, Stephanie Grisham, and White House Deputy Press Secretary Sarah Matthews have rightly done so.

“It has been an honour to serve the country in the White House,” Grisham said in a statement posted on Twitter.

“I am very proud to have been a part of Mrs Trump’s mission to help children everywhere and proud of the many accomplishments of this administration,” Grisham said.

White House social secretary Rickie Niceta also submitted her resignation in reaction to the violent protest by Trump supporters, White House official tells CNN.

Niceta served as the Trump administration’s sole social secretary, assuming the post in February 2017.

Deputy national security adviser Matt Pottinger, also joins the list of those that resigned their position in White House.

Several of President Trump’s top aides, including national security adviser Robert O’Brien, and deputy chief of staff Chris Liddell are also considering resigning in the wake of his response to a pro-Trump mob breaching the US Capitol on Wednesday.

It is gathered that more resignation would be witnessed at the White House as a result of the Wednesday incident.
