Ex-President Obasanjo, has told Nigerian youth to take charge of their future by wresting the reins of leadership from the older generation.
The elder statesman said this could only be done if the youth would be proactive with like minds joining forces together to make things uncomfortable for the older generation.
The former military ruler , however, stressed that the youth should not resort to violence but mount pressure on the older generation to make change of leadership happen.
The former president, who admitted that the older generation has done a lot wrong, added that instead of whining and wringing their hands in frustration the youth should start strategising on how to take over power and prove their worth.
He made this charge in an interview with academic and historian, Toyin Falola, held virtually on Sunday.
He said, “Whatever my generation might have done wrong— and I will be the first to admit that my generation has done a lot wrong— is for your (young) generation to do it better.
“Don’t just sit and complain; it is like the anger of a cripple. Be proactive. Get like-minded people that can say ‘we can bring about a change’.
“The old hands won’t voluntarily go out of the way. You have to make them go out of the way. Make it uncomfortable for them; not violence, but bringing pressure to bear.”
