Governor Abubakar Sani-Bello of Niger State has signed the 2023 appropriation bill of over N243 billion into law.

The Nigerian News reports that the budget was N5 billion above the N238 billion budget proposal presented to the state House of Assembly for consideration, with the capital expenditure standing at over N152 billion while recurrent expenditure is over N91 billion.

Under the sectorial breakdown, administration had over N9 billion, economics got over N102 billion, law and justice had more than N1 billion, while the social sector gulped over N38 billion.

Governor Bello expressed optimism that the budget would be to the benefit of the people irrespective of scarcity of resources.

He noted that as the last budget signed him, the incoming administration might make some changes or maintain the approved budget.

The governor, however, expressed optimism that if the 2023 budget would be implemented up to 90 per cent, it would bring about a better Niger State.

He commended the legislature for their continued support to the executive arm, pro-activeness, and tireless work, to ensure the passage of the 2023 bill.

The governor also commended the leadership and members of the state Budget and Planning Commission as well as ministries, departments, and agencies for their contributions in ensuring the budget was passed.

The Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Abdullahi Bawa, was represented by the lawmaker representing Chanchaga State Constituency, Ahmed Marafa, who presented the budget to the governor for assent.
