Coalition of South East Youth Leaders (COSEYL), the leading sociopolitical youth organization in the South East region, has rejected the office of the nation’s senate president in the 10th senate.
The group is essentially demanding that Peter Obi, presidential candidate for the Labour Party (LP), be given back the support of Nigerians.
The COSEYL president-general, Hon. Goodluck Ibem, referred to it as an insult for someone who was elected as number one to be appeased with a rubber stamp number three position in a statement released in Owerri, the capital of Imo State.

They issued a warning that South East senators seeking election as the 10th senate’s senate president are acting in their own self-interest and do not speak for the political interests of the region’s citizens.
“Ndigbo are united on this, and we won’t renege from our support for Mr. Peter Obi who won the 25 February 2023 presidential election,” were his exact words.
We support Mr. Peter Obi not because he is from the South East but rather because we believe he has what it takes to lead the nation out of its current predicament and because he was elected president. Mr. Peter Obi as President will greatly benefit the nation as the country is heavily indebted both internally and externally and he is fully prepared and equipped to pay off our nation’s debts as well as shift the country from consumption to production.

The president-elect was urged by the youth body to resign so that the senate presidency could be freely zoned to his geopolitical region.
