Amobi Ogah, a Labour Party House of Representatives member-elect, has been chastised by the party’s leadership for his recent statement on President Bola Tinubu.

On Thursday, Ogah, the lawmaker representing Isuikwuato-Umunneochi Federal Constituency in Abia State, expressed admiration for Tinubu, saying he had no idea he was so intelligent.

The statement was made shortly after the president met with the lawmakers elected to the 10th Assembly at the State House.

He stated:

“Today is the best day of my life.” I’m overjoyed to be an elected member after hearing my president speak. “In fact, I had no idea this man was so intelligent,” he said.

“I had no idea this man was so eager to serve his country.” I saw love, character, and charisma — the conviction that Nigeria can be a better country.”

As a result, he pledged his support to the president, stating that the interests of the country come before party affiliation.

Meanwhile, in a statement issued on Friday in Abuja, Hon. Ogah stated, “Hon. Ogah’s position on President Tinubu’s leadership, personal not party position.”

Obiora Ifoh, the party’s Acting National Publicity Secretary, signed the statement.

Such a remark, he claims, should not have come from any LP member at a time when the LP presidential candidate is fighting to reclaim his mandate at the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal.

Part of the statement read:

“The Labour Party’s leadership has been drawn to an interview granted by one of our House of Representatives members-elect, Hon. Amobi Ogah, in which he expressed his satisfaction with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s leadership and stated that some of his colleagues have “agreed to go towards government decision” on the leadership of the 10th Assembly.”

“As an individual, he lacks the mandate to speak for the party and thus cannot claim to be standing on the Labour Party platform to do so, expressing views that are diametrically opposed to what the Labour Party stands for.”

“The Labour Party is currently in the tribunal, hoping to reclaim our mandate, which was expressly given to our presidential candidate on February 25, and every testimony coming out of the tribunal points to the fact that the Labour Party clearly won the election but was robbed.” We have remained steadfast in our belief that justice will be served, and soon.
