The election of Godswill Akpabio, a former governor of Akwa Ibom State, and Jibrin Barau as the Senate President and Deputy Senate President of the 10th National Assembly, respectively, has been hailed by the Northern Christian Youth Professionals as a victory for inclusivity and national unity.

Abdulaziz Yari, the former governor of Zamfara State, received 46 votes, falling short of Akpabio’s total of 63 votes, who was declared the winner by Sani Tambuwal, the Clerk of the National Assembly.

The Arewa group also applauded Tajudeen Abass and Benjamin Kalu for becoming Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the lower chamber, respectively. Abass is a well-known politician from Kaduna.

Isaac Abrak, the chairman of Northern Christian Youth Professionals, revealed in a statement released in Abuja after the election that the results of the NASS polls marked important turning points in the nation’s collective journey towards inclusivity, unity, and progress.

“The NCYP commends all Senators for their commitment to inclusivity and the unity of all Nigerians,” he declared. Their wise choice to support Senator Akpabio, Senator Jibrin, Speaker Abbas, and Deputy Speaker Kalu shows that they value diversity and understand the value of working together to advance the goals of our great country.

“As members of the legislative branch of the government, Senate President Akpabio and Speaker Tajudeen have taken on crucial roles. To improve the quality of life for all Nigerians, the NCYP implores them to cooperate with the executive branch, which is headed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. In particular, we stress the significance of continuing and triumphing in the war against the oil subsidy cabal and making sure that our resources are effectively managed for the good of every citizen.

We once again extend our congratulations to Senator Godswill Akpabio, Senator Barau Jibrin, Honourable Tajudeen Abbas, and Honourable Benjamin Kalu on their appointments. We are confident that their leadership will open the door for inclusiveness, unification, and advancement in Nigeria along with the combined effort of the Senate and the House.
