On Tuesday, September 5, 2023, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) will launch a two-day warning strike in protest of the government’s failure to adequately offset the effects of the withdrawal of subsidies on Premium Motor Spirit, more popularly known as petrol.
The announcement was made by NLC President Joe Ajaero on Friday during a news conference at the Labour House in Abuja, while addressing on resolutions passed by the NLC National Executive Committee (NEC) the day before.
Earlier this month, the labour centre coordinated a nationwide protest against what it saw as “anti-poor” tactics implemented by the Bola Tinubu administration against Nigerians.

President Tinubu withdrew the subsidy at his inauguration speech on May 29, 2023, boosting the price of PMS to N610 per litre. The cost of living gradually grew as a result of the increase in fuel prices.
Despite the fact that the Tinubu administration established committees to prepare the launch of palliative care for workers, the labour centre noted that the committee had yet to produce proposals.
