60,000 acres are being considered for cultivation in Kebbi, Jigawa.
Sen. Kashim Shettima, the vice president, announced that the federal government has obtained a $163 million credit line from the African Development Bank to support wheat production.
“The African Development Bank has granted us a $163 million loan to help with wheat output. When Shettima paid a courtesy visit to Sumaila Mohammed, the Emir of Argungu, at his palace in Kebbi State, he announced that the initiative will soon be inaugurated.
In a statement he signed late Sunday under the headline “Tinubu will fulfill promises made to Nigerians, VP Shettima reassures during condolence visit to Kebbi,” Olusola Abiola, the State House Director of Information for the Office of the Vice President, made this revelation.
The VP, however, stated that the wheat farming initiative needs at least 60,000 hectares of fertile land in the states of Kebbi and Jigawa.
He stated, “We need 10,000 hectares of land in Kebbi State,” while reiterating the Tinubu administration’s intention to keep its pledges, particularly in the agricultural sector. However, Jigawa State will successfully implement the plan by cultivating 50,000 hectares of land to increase wheat production.
On behalf of President Tinubu, he also paid a condolence visit to the family of the late Islamic scholar Sheikh Abubakar Giro, noting that “this is a major loss to the state, nation, and West Africa.”
A well-known cleric named Giro recently passed away, and he was subsequently buried in his hometown of Argungu, Kebbi State, in accordance with Islamic customs.
President Bola Tinubu contacted me from India and asked me to come to Argungu to express my condolences to the esteemed sheikh’s family, the administration, and the people of Kebbi State and the north in general, Shettima continued.
The vice president said, “Late Sheikh Abubakar Giro was a famous scholar. He lived a simple life, worked for God, and paid little attention to material possessions. God, pardon his transgressions and give him eternal life.
The late Sheikh Giro’s accomplishments were something of which the Emir of Argungu expressed pride in his words.
He thanked President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima for their support and prayed for the unity and growth of Nigeria.
In the meantime, Vice President Shettima and President Bola Tinubu were commended for their display of affection by the National Leader of the Izala Sect, Sheikh Bala Lau, who met the Vice President on behalf of Giro’s family alongside other national executives.
The State Governor, Dr. Nasir Idris, welcomed the Vice President when he arrived earlier at the Sir Ahmadu Bello Airport in Birnin Kebbi.
Sen. Umar Tafida, the deputy governor of Kebbi State, Minister of Agriculture and Food Security Abubakar Kyari, and members of the Kebbi State Executive Council were among those who traveled with the vice president.
