Tinubu Appoints El-Rufai’s Commissioner As CBN Deputy Gov, Fires Emefiele’s Deputies

Muhammad Sani Abdullahi Dattijo has been appointed by President Bola Tinubu as the Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

Malam Nasir El-Rufai, the most recent governor of Kaduna State, appointed Dattijo as his Commissioner of Budget and Planning.

Additionally, the president dismissed all of Godwin Emefiele’s subordinates, the former governor of CBN who is currently being held by the Department of State Services (DSS).

Under Emefiele, the bank had four deputy governors: Folashodun Adebisi Shonubi, who took over as acting governor on June 9, 2023, Aishah N. Ahmad, the deputy governor of the financial system stability directorate, Edward L. Adamu, the deputy governor of the corporate services directorate, and Kingsley Obiora, the deputy governor of the economic policy directorate.

The new CBN deputy governors were named, according to a statement released on Friday by the presidential spokesperson, Chief Ajuri Ngelale.

According to Ngelale, President Tinubu has approved the appointment of four new CBN Deputy Governors for a term of five (5) years at the outset, subject to the Nigerian Senate’s confirmation.

Under nominees include Dr. Bala M. Bello, Mrs. Emem Nnana Usoro, and Mr. Philip Ikeazor in addition to Dattijo.

Senate confirmation is required for the appointments.
