In response to the removal of Timipre Sylva’s name from the list of candidates for the Bayelsa State governorship election on November 11, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has responded.
Joshua Maciver, Sylva’s running mate, was also struck from the revised list that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) posted on its website on Tuesday.
According to reports, Slyva’s name has been removed from the list by INEC in accordance with a Federal High Court decision that barred him from the election.
Perry Tukuwei, the spokesman for the Bayelsa APC Gubernatorial Campaign Council, responded in a statement on Wednesday, stating that Slyva’s name removal was a temporary setback that shouldn’t worry party members.
According to Tukuwei, the attorneys for the party had contested the court’s ruling and requested a stay of the judgment’s execution while the appeal was being handled.
The party anticipates winning at the Court of Appeal in the end, he continued.
The Bayelsa APC Gubernatorial Campaign issued the following statement: “We, the people of Bayelsa, are urged by the recent political events not to let them down as we strive to win the governorship on November 11th.”
