A Presidential Steering Committee for Nigeria’s Safe Schools Project is scheduled to be established by the Federal Government.

This was stated in a benevolent speech given by Senator George Akume, Secretary to the Government of the Federation SGF, during a one-day National Summit on Safe Schools with the topic “Tackling identified threats in Nigeria.”

According to him, the move is a component of the government’s resolve to improve the Safe Schools project’s coordination in order to guarantee that important stakeholders collaborate effectively within a single framework.

He clarified that the objective is to achieve a more successfully coordinated implementation of the Safe Schools Declaration SSD, strengthen synergy, and optimize resource allocation. He was represented by Professor Bolaji Bernard Babatunde, Senior Special Assistant (Technical).

Akume commended the Ministry of Education, Finance, and Interior for their efforts, as well as the contributions of Development Partners and Civil Society Organizations like Save the Children International. He also applauded the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), which is the coordinating agency of the Safe Schools project, for organizing the event.

Speaking as well, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, Minister of the Interior, reaffirmed that the effort is vital to the development of the country and that parents’ trust in sending their children to school must be ensured.

He called safe schools an admirable government program and advised that everyone who is involved in the matter should take the implementation of this policy seriously.

“Our joint responsibility extends beyond the government to ensure the safety of our schools. To provide our children with the safe learning environment they deserve, collaboration between parents, educators, law enforcement agencies, and communities is essential. And Tunji-Ojo said.

The National Safe Schools Response Coordination Center (NSSRCC) has been operating creditably well using the whole-of-society approach in collaboration with security agencies, civil society organizations, schools and host communities, government organs at the federal, state, and local levels as well as local and international partners and donor agencies, according to Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, the Commandant General of the NSCDC, in his welcome address.

Audi clarified that his administration has instituted a Schools Security program that gives NSCDC staff members the chance to visit schools and raise awareness through lobbying.

The center arranged the meeting in an effort to address threats that it believed would prevent the Safe Schools Project in Nigeria from being implemented successfully.

In order to ensure that the summit’s intended outcome is met, the head of the NSCDC explained that the purpose of the gathering was to equip relevant stakeholders and facilitate actions related to the implementation of the Safe Schools Project. The summit’s participants included security and education experts, members of civil society, development partners, and strategic stakeholders.
