The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the party’s presidential candidate in 2023, have come under fire from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for what it called unjustified attacks on the Nigerian judiciary in the wake of a string of unfavorable court rulings following the general elections.

In response to remarks attributed to Atiku and the PDP on recent rulings that overturned certain election wins reported by other parties, the APC declared that Atiku and the PDP were “being haunted by the ghost of their inglorious past.”

The National Publicity Secretary of the ruling party, Felix Morka, made a statement on Tuesday in Abuja, wherein he ridiculed the opposition for allegedly making unfounded claims that the judiciary was being pressured by a nonexistent committee that was established to ensure favorable judicial decisions for the ruling party.

Morka declared, “The PDP have taken their contemptuous recklessness in attacking our judicial system to a whole new and unacceptable level.”
“We are a progressive party that fully supports the long-standing, essential constitutional principles of the separation of powers and the judiciary’s independence.”The PDP has lost any sense of these principles, and regrettably, they are unable to see a different kind of governance than the corrupt, brutal, and lawless one that it once practiced.

“The PDP is not the APC, and its irreversible dishonour and betrayal of the rule of law and constitutional democracy should not be associated with it.”
