Reps seek International collaboration to combat corruption

The House of Representatives has stressed the importance of international cooperation in the effort to combat Nigeria’s corruption epidemic.

At the Standing Committee’s first meeting in Abuja, Hon. Kayode Akiolu, the Chairman of the House Committee on Anti-Corruption, revealed this information and reaffirmed the 10th Assembly’s commitment to enhancing accountability and openness through cooperation and legislative changes.

The chairman gave Nigerians assurances that the Committee will guarantee efficient monitoring and assessment of the Anti-corruption Agencies’ actions, even promising CSOs and foreign organizations of strong participation in the Committee’s execution of its duties.

He said, “This agenda item covers the main purposes of our committee and is in line with both our long-term ambitions and the interests of our fellow Nigerians. In order to effectively combat corruption, it addresses the need for cooperation, capacity building, and legislative reforms.

He expressed hope that working with CSOs and international organizations would “enhance our fight against corruption, the committee will host a collaborative meeting to get citizens’ feedback through organized actions by CSCSOsnd International Organizations” in an effort to meet the goals set forth and intensify the fight against corruption.

These gatherings will encourage thoughtful conversation, information exchange, and teamwork. We will start by going one-on-one to both national and international organizations to make contacts and look into potential areas of collaboration. This endeavor is in line with our secondary authority of creating initiatives to deal with legal or behavioral infractions. The CSO meetings will assist us in talking about tactics and looking at joint ventures to successfully combat corruption.

Additionally, Hon. Akiolu announced the Committee’s strategic work plan, which includes planning a retreat to give members a thorough grasp of anti-corruption procedures, policies, and the difficulties they present.
