The federal government declared that it would be reviewing the rules for hiring personnel for the Civil Defense, Fire, Correctional, and Immigration Services, and that women would now make up 35% of those hired.
The information was revealed by Interior Minister Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo on Friday, January 19, following the Board of the Civil Defense, Fire, Correctional, and Immigration Services meeting in Abuja.
He claimed that the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu was in accordance with the 35 percent of slots allotted to women.
At the briefing, Dr. Ahmed Audi, the Commandant-General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Caroline Wura-Ola Adepoju, the Comptroller-General of Immigration, and Haliru Nababa, the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS) accompanied Tunji-Ojo, who spoke through the Secretary of the Board, Ja’afaru Ahmed.
Abdulgafar Jaji, the Commandant General of the Federal Fire Service (FFS), was also present.
The minister stated that the new guidelines, which will primarily emphasize professionalism, gender mainstreaming, and Federal Character principles, will serve as the foundation for ongoing recruitment into the Federal Fire Service.
According to Tunji-Ojo, “the guidelines for recruitment into and promotion in all four Services under the Ministry of Interior have been approved for review by the federal government through the Board.”
“The modernization of the Nigeria Immigration Service’s operations coincides with the development as well. There will be a comprehensive modernization that includes hiring, promoting, training, developing professional skills, building capacity, and implementing cutting-edge technology.

The minister declared that recruitment schedules for each service would be made public eventually by the Services.
The speaker cautioned prospective applicants from Nigeria not to fall for con artists, citing government awareness of some con artists requesting payment in exchange for fire service recruitment.
This is a request that Nigerians refrain from falling for con artists. A scammer is anyone who requests payment in exchange for recruiting you into one of the Agencies. Their actions are known to us, and we will pursue them.
Giving further details about the Immigration Service’s modernization, Comptroller-General Mrs. Adepoju stated that the Service will prioritize professional specialization and capacity building to make sure that advancement isn’t a reward for layoffs.
