Nigerian captain William Troost-Ekong has stated that there are no superstars in the Super Eagles camp.

He stated that the Super Eagles are challenging for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON, trophy because the squad has a strong feeling of unity.

He also stated that the team’s success stems from the fact that its young, skilled players have something to prove.

Ekong, who plays for PAOK, is the oldest player on Jose Peseiro’s club in the current campaign.

The competition features nine Super Eagles players who play for top five European League clubs.

“I think all of us now playing in respectable teams in respect of the leagues, one or two in better teams than others, but everyone is young and wants to prove something and that’s what probably makes us a good team” , he said to Hot Sports.

“We’re all in this together, and I don’t think anyone has considered whose club they play for since we were here at the camp. It’s a true brotherhood going on. That’s helping us play well.

“We don’t have any superstars in our team; I believe that in previous generations, Nigeria had a lot of players playing in big teams.”

“However much that’s helped the team it might have also been a bit difficult because you have different agendas maybe and you have to take into account a lot of different players and different mentalities.”
