No extension – Telcos communicate on NIN-SIM linkage deadline in Nigeria

Telecommunications firms say no extension exists for the Nationwide Identification Quantity and Subscribers Identification Module linkage deadline.

Gbenga Adebayo, Chairman of the Affiliation of Licensed Telecoms Operators of Nigeria, disclosed this in an unique interview with reporter on Thursday.

He famous that Telcos have a regulatory directive from the Nigerian Communications Fee, NCC, to withdraw providers from subscribers with out NIN-SIM.

“There gained’t be an extension. We’ve regulatory directives to withdraw service from subscribers whose NINs aren’t linked to their SIM. And we’re doing precisely that. So, there isn’t a extension; we’re unaware of any extension”, he mentioned.

reporter stories that the Nationwide Affiliation of Telecommunications Subscribers, NATCOMS, and Adeolu Ogunbanjo appealed for a 30-day NIN-SIM linkage deadline extension.

reporter recollects that in December, telecom operators, on the directives of NCC, had insisted on the February 28 deadline to bar subscribers with out NIN-SIM linkage.

The regulators had mentioned the transfer was essential to tame rising insecurity within the nation.

Consequently, NCC issued a directive to telecom service suppliers to bar subscribers who didn’t hyperlink their NIN-SIM efficiently.

reporter recollects that in 2020, Isa Pantami, the previous Minister of Communications and Digital Financial system, introduced the combination coverage of SIM playing cards into the NIN database.
