Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla, has called on Nigerians to pray for peace unity, and progress in face of the current challenges.
He said although the country was passing through daunting challenges in both economic and security realm, with prayers from both Christians and Muslims, God intervention is assured.
The naval Chief gave the charge at an Iftar (breaking of fasting) programme organised by the Nigerian Navy Islamic Directorate, in the spirit of this year’s Ramadan in Abuja.
According to him, with plenty socio-economic challenges bedeviling the country, there is need for citizens to be steadfast in seeking Allah’s intervention.
“The Nation is facing daunting challenges particularly from the security and economic aspect of our nation hood. And in addition to working hard to overcome this challenges, we believe that man being a spiritual being will also need prayers.”
“For this year’s Ramadan also coincided with Lenten period for the Christians. This emphasizes the oneness of all religions particularly Islam and Christianity. We must jointly continue to pray for God Almighty to intervene in our situation,” Vice Admiral Ogalla said.
Ogalla, who admonished Nigerians to dedicate their lives to serving God wholeheartedly in order to earn his mercies, said the necessity of all and sundry also praying for peace and security to dwell in our dear nation cannot be overstressed.
He noted that the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces was doing all humanly possible to see a turnaround in the country and “those of us who are his field officers are also equally ready to do all that is humanly possible”.
“I want to join our Muslim brothers and sisters to continue to pray for peace and security of this nation,” he added.
