Leaders of the All Progressives Congress in the Southeast on Wednesday cast a vote of confidence in Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, who has been appointed the party’s coordinator in the zone.
The leadership includes the National Vice Chairman (Southeast), Dr. Ijeomah Arodiogbu and State Chairmen in the region.
This came hours after the APC Chairman, Dr Abdullahi Ganduje, named Uzodimma as one of the six coordinators of the party’s affairs in the six geo-political zones of the country.
They expressed their confidence in a letter signed by Arodiogbu and the Anambra State Chairman, Basil Ejidike.
“We are confident that with Governor Uzodimma officially leading the charge in the activities of the Party in the South East, the APC will be in governorship and legislative control of the five states of the region as well as produce an overwhelming majority of the seats from the region at the National Assembly in the next round of election,” said the party leaders.
The APC state chairmen, who pledged to support Uzodimma, commended the APC national leadership for appointing him in recognition of his role in strengthening the party’s base in the Southeast.
They noted that the Imo governor was appointed due to “his acceptability and popularity which cut across the various segments of the population in the region…and his “deep understanding of the social and political nuances of the region and exceptional capacity for party mobilisation”.
“We commend the national leadership of our great Party for appointing Governor Hope Uzodimma to lead our Party’s charge in the South East.
“It is clear that this is in recognition of Governor Uzodimma’s relentless roles in mobilizing support and building the APC which was hitherto unknown in the region to now become a major and leading political party in the region.
“Because of Governor Uzodimma’s exceptional capacity for political mobilisation as well as his performance in office, other political parties are now dissolving into the APC in the South East,” the letter read.
The southeast leaders asserted that influential political leaders including former state governors, ministers, diplomats, national and state legislators, local government officials and youth groups are pouring from other parties into the APC guided by Governors Uzodimma and Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State.
The State Chairmen also called on all members of the APC in the region to brace up for the task ahead, adding that the Party is now well-received in the Southeast.
