Akeem Ogundokun on Monday won the Easter Retreat organized by the Ogun State Scrabble Association while Nosa Igbinadolor rose to the peak at the Plateau State Scrabble Association’s J-Town Bash on the same day.

Both competitions held in the scenic state capitals of Abeokuta and Jos attracted a good number of participants at the one-day competition.

After 10 exciting rounds on the board, Ogundokun shot to the top of the table by edging past former national captain Cyril Umebiye with a +475 cumulative points after both players ended the tournament with eight wins and two defeats.

Umebiye garnered a cumulative point of +420.

Third placed African Youth Champion David Ojih earned seven wins, three defeats with +534 while Samuel Adebola finished fourth in the 21- player retreat which also had in attendance the Chairman of the Association Adekoyejo Adegbesan.

Various cash prizes were won by the players.

In the North-Central, the capital city of Jos was the jamming ground for the 28-man championship where Igbinadolor emerged at the top as the winner of Division A.

The Airpop Alpha captain steered his way to the peak after he secured a total of 9 wins in 12 rounds with a final round victory of 420-389 over Friday Ogbonyomi.

His high cumulative points of +617 cleared his pathway to victory ahead of Toke Aka (the National Federation President) and Ogbonyomi who also got the same record of 9 wins and 3 defeats each but with lower cumulative points of 507 and 460 each to finish second and third respectively.

Emmanuel Azi picked the Division B title ahead of second placed Arafan Anthony and Ashom Aaron who came second and third in the lower class.

As part of the uniqueness of the event, players were given a tour of places of interest including the museum after the colourful event.

An excited Chairman of the Plateau State Scrabble Association Muhammed Abbas commended the Local Organising Committee for the success of the tournament.
