Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Ododo, has commended President Bola Tinubu for assenting the Nigeria Student Loan Act.

Tinubu, on Wednesday, signed the Student Loans (Access to Higher Education) Act (Repeal and Re-Enactment) Bill, 2024, into law.

This followed separate considerations by the Senate and the House of Representatives on the Committee on Tertiary Institutions and TETFund’s report.

Reacting to the signing, Ododo noted that the Student Loan Act will improve the quality of education and increase access to education for millions of Nigerian youths and children from disadvantaged social and economic backgrounds in the country.

In a statement by his Special Adviser on Media, Ismaila Isah, the governor said, “President Tinubu is placing a premium on the provision of quality education to Nigerians, adding that education is a veritable tool for empowering the people and an enabler for more Nigerians to ascend the socio-economic ladder irrespective of their social and economic backgrounds.”

Ododo noted that “by assenting to the Student Loan Act, President Tinubu has further demonstrated uncommon determination to transform the education sector in Nigeria, thereby, providing the impetus for the acquisition of skills required to meet Nigeria’s manpower needs in response to emerging realities of the development agenda of the country.”

He also praised the President for prioritising the development of education in Nigeria, noting that the Student Loan Act and its provisions show that education is critical to the President’s attainment of the Renewed Hope Agenda.

The governor also assured all of his administration’s commitment to enhancing access to quality education in the state by expanding the scale of educational infrastructure and providing the needed resources to skill up the youth population in the state.
