The minority caucus in the House of Representatives has called on Nigerians to imbibe the spirit of tolerance, sacrifice, and peaceful co-existence as they join other Muslims to mark this year’s Eid-el-Fitr.

In a statement issued on Thursday and signed by the Minority Leader of the House and chairman of the caucus, Kingsley Chinda, the lawmakers elected on the platform of the minority parties urged Muslims to use the Eid-el-Fitr to show love to one another in the interest of peace and national cohesion.

The statement read, “As a caucus, we are elated and most heartily rejoice with our Muslim brethren on this auspicious occasion which marks the end of the 2024 Ramadan fast.

“We urge our Muslim brethren to continue to exhibit the spirit of tolerance, forgiveness, self-sacrifice, mutual love, good neighbourliness, and peaceful coexistence with others, as demonstrated by the Holy Prophet Mohammed (Peace Be Unto Him).

“We hope and pray that this event will afford our Muslim brethren the opportunity to continue to pray for the unity, peace and progress of our dear country, Nigeria, particularly in view of the numerous challenges facing us as a people, including poverty, hunger, several killings, abductions, kidnappings and general state of insecurity across the country.

“We equally urge all Nigerians to remain firm, steadfast, and resolute in playing their respective parts in ensuring the rebirth of a truly secular, progressive, and egalitarian Nigerian society of our dreams.

“We are confident that God is on our side and that we shall collectively triumph in the end.”
