The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has confirmed that an abducted lawyer and his niece have been rescued from their kidnappers’ den by the operatives, TheNigerian Metro learnt on Sunday.

A trending video monitored by our correspondent indicates that the victims were rescued when operatives of the command stormed an underground tunnel where the victims were held hostage.

The operatives, acting on a tip-off soon, closed in on the place where the abductees were kept and strenuously lifted a slab which was rolled over them by their captors, to bring them out of the tunnel.

“Come out, all of you. You are saved in Jesus name”, the voice of what seemed like a police officer could be heard during the rescue operation.

When contacted by TheNigerian Metro, the Police Public Relations Officer of the command, ASP Nsifon John, confirmed the development, adding that the victims were still undergoing medical examination.

“There was a rescue oppression by the command, which was very successful,  the victims are undergoing medical examination,” she said.
