Claims that a Federal High Court in Abuja issued an injunction prohibiting Senator David Mark and Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola from serving as the party’s National Chairman and National Secretary, respectively, have been refuted by the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The spreading rumors of a court injunction against the new leadership were characterized as the product of mischief makers and false news peddlers by the ADC in a statement released Thursday by Bolaji Abdullahi, its National Publicity Secretary.
The party argued that in its September 4, 2025, ruling, which was presided over by Justice Emeka Nwite, the Abuja Federal High Court denied Nafiu Bala Gombe’s ex-parte application and instead ordered the defendants to be placed on notice, appear to provide justification for their denial, and postpone the case until September 15, 2025.
The ADC went on to say that desperate political jobbers are trying to mislead Nigerians and feed the media with fake news after being let down by the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) decision to acknowledge the party’s leadership transition.
The entire statement was as follows:
“The African Democratic Congress (ADC) would like to correct misinformation that is currently making the rounds in the media on the Federal High Court’s recent decision in Abuja regarding our great party’s leadership.
The court did not issue an order prohibiting Senator David Mark and Senator Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola from serving as the ADC’s National Chairman and National Secretary, respectively, despite certain false publications. Rather, the Honorable Court ordered that due process be followed and denied Hon. Nafiu Bala Gombe’s ex-parte plea.
The following four directives were explicitly mentioned in the verdict, which was delivered by Hon. Justice Emeka Nwite on September 4, 2025:
1. That the application submitted by the Plaintiff/Applicant on September 2, 2025, is denied.
2. That the Defendants shall be given notice by the Plaintiff/Applicant.
3. That the Respondents/Defendants be required to come before this Honorable Court to provide justification for the denial of the application.
4. That the case be postponed until September 15, 2025, so that the Respondents/Defendants can provide justification.
The presiding judge, Hon. Justice Emeka Nwite, officially signed and issued the order, and the Federal High Court Registrar, Kasope Kafayat Bola, certified it.
The political Jobbers are now turning to fake news after failing to prevent INEC from recognizing the change in ADC leadership. This demonstrates how anxious these destabilization agents are to create confusion and further weaken opposition parties, even if it means distorting court decisions.
In light of this, the ADC’s leadership advises the public and media to exercise caution and be on the lookout for false information and fake news that are typical of the ruling party and its operatives.
