ADC Says Coalition Formed to Prevent Nigeria from Becoming a One-Party State

According to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), its members banded together to prevent Nigeria from becoming a one-party state under President Bola Tinubu.

Speaking to Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC spokesperson emphasized that the party wishes to save Nigeria from contemporary civilian rule and pointed out that the country’s democracy would have been in danger without the coalition.

“We’ve been worried about this since day one,” he stated. that the goal of the Tinubu administration is to turn Nigeria into a one-party state. We first got together for this reason. It is the government’s propensity to turn Nigeria into a one-party state. What do you believe would have happened to Nigeria’s democracy today if it weren’t for the coalition?

The PDP, or People’s Democratic Party, is essentially extinct. The Labour Party has become unstable. The ADC is currently the only opposition party in Nigeria that can be referred to as such. However, this supports our claim that the coalition is here to save Nigeria from this contemporary civilian dictatorship and its propensity to become a one-party state. I would have been justified as a result. The decamping of the governors to the ruling party is a component of that overarching goal. However, Nigeria now has an option.

“Nigeria will have to make a decision over whether or not to retain this government. And we can offer that substitute. And for that reason, ADC is in existence. Therefore, it makes little difference if the ruling party or the governors are members of the same gang. Thus, we are not at all concerned. Naturally, we are worried, as you correctly pointed out.

“We are worried because, for the first time, we are witnessing something that we never thought would occur in this nation. But remember, was the PDP acting differently and in a different manner during its peak of power? We witnessed a situation where nearly all members of the political elite were joining the PDP. Have we forgotten that about 20 years ago, the PDP’s national chairman declared that the party will rule for 60 years since they controlled nearly every state? Where is PDP now, then? You’ll see what happens to APC if they haven’t learned from the past.
