The African Democratic Congress, or ADC, has criticized President Bola Tinubu’s administration for requesting a permanent place on the UN Security Council at a time when the nation is still experiencing widespread insecurity.
In a statement, the party’s national publicity secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, contended that Nigeria should not demand more international duties while consistently neglecting its most fundamental duty to safeguard the lives and property of its inhabitants.
“As bandits massacre Nigerians at home and seize control of some of the country’s territories, the ADC finds it ridiculous that the Tinubu administration could be asking for a permanent seat on the UN Security Council,” Abdullahi stated.
Recent attacks in Zamfara and Katsina states, including an attack on worshippers at a mosque in Yandoto village, where multiple people were slain and kidnapped, were mentioned by the opposition coalition.
Additionally, it recalled that, as of May 2025, Amnesty International reported that armed groups had killed over 10,000 people countrywide, including at least 140 murders in each states in the previous two months.
The party declared, “These are not numbers; they were human beings, Nigerians to whom this administration had offered new hope.”
ADC also expressed concern over the actions of armed gangs in Zamfara, claiming that they had forced farmers to pay over N56 million in order to gain access to their farms.
