Afenifere suspends two officers for making improper statements, maintains Obi won election

The pan-Yoruba sociopolitical group Afenifere has announced the suspension of Mr. Jare Ajayi, in charge of publicity, and Mr. Abagun Kole Omololu, in charge of organizing, due to allegations of wrongdoing.

Furthermore, the group argued that the presidential election of February 25, 2023 was invalid due to a number of irregularities.

This was stated in a statement released after the Afenifere meeting that took place on Tuesday at the residence of the group’s leader, Pa Ayo Adebanjo, in Isanya Ogbo, Ogun State.

The call was made in a statement released in Akure, the capital of Ondo State, by Chief Sola Ebiseni, the association’s national secretary general.

The group claimed in the communique that the two officers’ suspension was indefinite.

“Observed the uncouth activities and unauthorised statements in its name and to the constant denigration of the organization, by Jare Ajayi, the National Publicity Secretary, and Abagun Kole Omololu, the National Organising Committee,” according to Afenifere. “After due consideration of the unending embarrassing conduct of the two officers, the meeting resolved that they be and are hereby removed from their respective offices and their membership be suspended sine die.

The group that insisted Mr. Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, won the most recent presidential election said it still adhered to its stance on the election.

In part, the statement read, “We support Peter Obi’s decision to challenge the contrary declaration by the INEC because the results of the legitimate votes cast in the presidential election made available to the Afenifere through credible sources confirm that he, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, won the aforementioned election.

“We reiterate that the next President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria shall be a person of its southern part, specifically the South-East, for equity, fairness, national cohesion, and peaceful corporate existence.”
