Agbese’s Book on Buhari’s Integrity Gains Renewed Attention

President Olusegun Obasanjo once stated that one of the best ways to become a good leader is to read and study the biographies and books of past leaders. In line with this philosophy, a notable work has resurfaced in leadership discourse—“Integrity vs Power Play: The Buhari Phenomenon”, authored in 2019 by Hon. Chief Philip Agbese, Deputy Spokesman of the Federal House of Representatives.

The book presents a compelling examination of the leadership style of President Muhammadu Buhari, with a focus on his renowned integrity and principled approach to governance. Agbese explores the nuances of Buhari’s political persona and his moral compass in public service, offering readers an insider perspective on the “Buhari phenomenon.”

Femi Adesina, former Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to President Buhari, praised the author in a feature titled “The Disciple Called Philip.” He described Agbese as “a journalist and patriot” with an unwavering commitment to Nigeria and strong support for President Buhari’s efforts in reshaping the country.

Adesina also highlighted Agbese’s publishing efforts through The Nigerian News (online) and The Nigerian Tabloid (monthly print), which have featured military achievements, including describing Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai’s tenure as “mission accomplished” and introducing the new Service Chiefs as “New Sheriffs in Town.”

He recalled receiving Agbese at the State House, Abuja, on February 1, 2021, and described Integrity vs Power Play, a 269-page volume, as a vital contribution to political literature and leadership studies in Nigeria.

The book remains a recommended read for scholars, policymakers, and citizens seeking a deeper understanding of governance, integrity, and the dynamics of political leadership in Nigeria.
