Aisha Yesufu, a rights activist, has identified one of Nigeria’s most significant political issues.
According to Yesufu, a significant problem in Nigerian politics is the smooth transition of leaders from one party to another.
She stressed the necessity for legislation that would guarantee MPs can switch parties but must give up whatever positions or advantages they may have gained with the prior party in a post on X.
Yesufu asserts that in the absence of such legislation, the pattern of legislators switching to the ruling party at the state and federal levels will continue.
“This seamless switching from one party to another is one of the biggest problems we have in Nigerian politics,” she wrote. We need laws that clearly say that you can switch parties and that your right to association is protected, but you must leave behind whatever you gain! This unhealthy condition where everyone wants to switch to the dominant party, whether at the state or federal level, would persist until that is resolved.
