On Monday, the All Progressives Congress (APC) gained further support in Ondo State as Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa welcomed Dayo Awude, a former leader of the Labour Party, and a few other lawmakers to the party.
In the state capital of Akure, in the Town Hall, Governor Aiyedatiwa formally welcomed Awude and his followers to the APC.
Additionally, the governor welcomed leaders of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Social Democratic Party (SDP), and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC.
One of the state’s most well-known grassroots politicians is Awude, a former Commissioner and PDP State Vice Chairman.
On Sunshine Grassroots Network, Governor Aiyedatiwa hailed the defectors and explained their prudent choices to join the state’s ruling party.
“There is no space for coalition in Ondo State; there is only one APC,” stated Aiyedatiwa. Individuals join political parties for a variety of reasons, but the party’s interest must always come before all other considerations. For the APC, that priority is maintaining power.
The governor said that both his own administration in Ondo State and the federal government, led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, had indicators of good governance.
“The entire state of Ondo is for President Tinubu come 2027, and the decision of these defectors to join us today is a strong step towards that goal,” stated Aiyedatiwa. By joining our party, you can be sure that we will increase our numbers and fortify the APC before the presidential election.
Citing his agreement with the current administration’s progressive values and developmental objectives, Awude declared his defection to the APC.
“I have joined the APC to add value, and I assure Mr. Governor that he will see it,” he stated. To completely integrate, I implore all of our party’s supporters to go back to their units and wards.
“To support President Bola Tinubu and the administration of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, I am here for progress.”

Dele Ogunbameru, a former Social Democratic Party (SDP) secretary and another defector, revealed that he had encountered several difficulties in his previous organization.
He said that he joined the ruling party to share his extensive knowledge and assist it advance since he felt at home with the APC.
Awude is a guy of talent, according to APC state chairman Engr. Ade Adetimehin, who also pointed out that true political strength starts at the unit and spreads to the ward.
“Any politician who fails to deliver his unit and ward is not a politician,” he declared. I exhort each and every one of our new members to strive for grassroots party strengthening.
Thus, I would like to formally welcome you to the APC on behalf of our party’s national chairman. I then turn you over to Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, our party’s leader in Ondo State.
