The opposition has been urged by Senate President Godswill Akpabio to unite prior to the 2027 election.
He cautioned the opposition that if they continued to attack every aspect of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Bola Tinubu’s administration, they would not be able to unite.
In the nation’s capital, Abuja, Akpabio gave a speech during the opening of the recently built Left-Hand Service Carriageway.

Some leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), including former governors Ayo Fayose (Ekiti) and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu), were there.

During his Democracy Day speech before a joint session of the National Assembly on Thursday, June 12, 2025, the Senate president cited Tinubu’s statement.
Akpabio remarked, “The president stated that he opposes Nigeria becoming a one-party state. He’s hoping the opposition will organize their homes.

In order to prevent accusations of attempting to suppress the opposition, strive to gather your homes together before the next election.

However, I would not chair over your problems and put it together if you want me to do so in my capacity as Senate president and the president’s representative.

“For this reason, the president stated that he wants you to unite, but he would not assist you in doing so if you are unable to do so. This is politics.

And as long as you keep telling lies every day, you will never be able to unite. as well as when you criticize everything. In your country, nothing is good. Did Nigeria look like this in 1960? Three years ago, was Abuja like this?
