Akwa Ibom Commissioner Resigns, Refuses to Join Governor Eno in APC

Ini Ememobong, the Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Information, Special Duties, and Ibom Deep Sea Port, has officially resigned from the state executive council, following Governor Umo Eno’s defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In his resignation letter dated June 6, 2025, Ememobong cited the governor’s directive that all appointees who are unwilling to join him in the APC should step down. “Based on my personal convictions, I hereby respectfully resign my appointment,” he stated.

Governor Eno recently switched political allegiance to the APC, a move seen by many as strategic ahead of the 2027 general elections. His defection follows a similar step taken by Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori six weeks ago.

Speculations about Eno’s political shift began in April when he publicly endorsed President Bola Tinubu’s re-election campaign during the launch of a major road project in Nsit-Antai Local Government Area. Two weeks prior to Ememobong’s resignation, the governor instructed his appointees to either follow him to the APC or resign their posts.

Governor Eno, elected in March 2023 and sworn in on May 29 of the same year, has a professional background in banking and hospitality and is the founder of All Nations Christian Ministry International.
