Senator Umaru Tanko Al-Makura, a former governor of Nasarawa State, withdrew his case from the ongoing election petition tribunal where he was contesting Mohammed Onawo’s victory in the recently held 2023 Nasarawa South senatorial election.
Al-Makura revealed the information in a press release sent to journalists that our Lafia-based correspondent was able to obtain on Saturday.
For the stability of Nasarawa State and all of Nigeria, the former governor claimed he withdrew his case opposing Onawo’s election at the election petition tribunal sitting in Lafia.
Al-Makura, who represents Nasarawa South in the National Assembly’s Upper Chamber, continued by saying that as a patriotic citizen, he made the decision to make the necessary sacrifice in order for the state and nation to advance.
The lawmaker asserted that politics is not a life-or-death endeavour and added that his goal was to restore the public’s faith in a better future.
It is customary to seek redress in the tribunals when the results of an election reveal certain legal violations. However, the current state of affairs necessitates a more practical approach and the consolidation of the steadily regaining stability in our state, according to Al-Makura.
