In Daura, Katsina state, Rotimi Amaechi, the former minister of transportation, was seen at the funeral of former President Muhammadu Buhari while donning a turban.
After his death on July 13, former Nigerian president and head of state Buhari was buried in his hometown of Daura and there was widespread sadness.
To attend the previous president’s funeral, Amaechi wore the customary headdress.
In the meantime, Buhari’s body was transported by air on the presidential plane on Tuesday morning from London to Nigeria.
A TURBAN: WHY IS AMAECHI DOING IT?
The title of Dan Amanar of Daura, which translates to “trusted son of Daura,” was bestowed upon Amaechi on February 5, 2022, in appreciation of his accomplishments and leadership in the transportation industry.
At the time, former Senate deputy majority leader Silas Zwingina denied that the turbaning was political in nature, characterizing it as a Daura Emirate cultural show of gratitude.

The Daura Emirate, according to Zwingina, has a tradition of rewarding people who have made significant contributions to the advancement of the community.
“It is completely unrelated to politics, and no one should interpret it in any way,” he stated, adding that Amaechi’s projects in Daura and throughout Nigeria are self-sufficient.
Amaechi has faced criticism for his turban in the past, most notably in 2022 when Musa Saidu, the southern Arewa leader, advised the minister to cease donning it while running for office.
According to Saidu, the turban is a powerful Islamic symbol, and its usage as a political accessory should be avoided.
