A 25-year-old ex-convict who attempted to kidnap a girl by luring her with N50 has been arrested in Osogbo, the capital of Osun State.
According to reports, the suspect who was detained by the Amotekun Corps men in Osogbo’s Obanisola Street had previously been convicted of armed robbery.
Oseni was apprehended after the victim raised the alarm, which caught her mother’s attention and forced the suspect to make an attempt to flee the scene.
However, he was apprehended by Amotekun agents who responded to the distress call before he could flee the area.
The Osun Amotekun Corps Commander, Brig.-Gen. Bashir Adewinmbi (retd.), confirmed the arrest in an Osogbo statement on Monday. He said, “The operatives of Amotekun arrested the culprit in Osogbo while trying to kidnap a young girl around Obanisola Street, Powerline area, Osogbo and the young girl raised the alarm which attracted the mother of the girl and the neighbours.
“A complaint was made to the Amotekun Olorunda Command, and personnel responded. He was arrested right away. Mumini Oseni admitted to carrying out the deed during a cross-examination. He is a former inmate serving time for armed robbery.
The police have the suspect now for further questioning and possible prosecution.
