Aliyu Audu, an APC chieftain, has urged President Bola Tinubu’s administration to take into consideration the formation of six additional states drawn from all geopolitical zones.
On Wednesday, Audu, a member of the APC Presidential Transition Council’s Media Strategy Subcommittee, made the call while participating in a Channels Television broadcast.
The party leader argued that by adding more states, the increasing rural-urban migration would be reduced.
According to Audu, some states, like Lagos, are overwhelmed as a result of the large-scale migration of Nigerians to the metropolis in search of better opportunities.
If we can minimise rural-urban migration and stop people from moving from the North, the East, and the West to Lagos, he continued, we can relieve some of the strain on Lagos by establishing six other states in six geopolitical zones.
“It balances the states, and to do this, you need more people, more hands, and more procedures,” the speaker said.
